CNC lapping

CNC lapping, or Computer Numerical Control lapping, is a precision machining process in which two surfaces are rubbed against each other with an abrasive intermediate medium. The goal is to make the surfaces extremely flat and smooth on a microscopic level. This process is controlled by CNC technology, which means it is automated and extremely precise.

How does CNC lapping work?

In CNC lapping, the parts to be machined are placed in a machine where they are pressed against a rotating disc. This disc is covered with an abrasive material, such as diamond powder. The CNC machine controls the pressure, speed and direction of movement, which ensures a uniform surface finish.

Applications of CNC Leppen

CNC lapping is a crucial process in the world of precision machining. With its ability to create extremely smooth and flat surfaces, it plays an important role in several industries.

  • Aerospace: for finishing turbine blades and other critical components.
  • Automotive industry: for polishing engine parts for improved performance.
  • Medical equipment: for smoothing surgical instruments and implants.

Semiconductor industry: for flattening wafers and other components.

  • High precision: CNC control allows lapping to be performed with extreme precision.
  • Smooth finish: It provides a high-quality surface finish, essential for many high-tech applications.
  • Efficiency: CNC lapping is more efficient than manual methods, leading to shorter production times.
  • Versatility: It can be applied to a wide range of materials, including metals, ceramics and plastics.

The future of CNC leppen

The future of CNC lapping looks promising. With the continued development of CNC technologies and materials, the process will become even more accurate and efficient. This will make CNC lapping even more valuable in industries such as nanotechnology and microelectronics.
