CNC honing

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) honing is a fine machining process in which an abrasive tool is used to improve the size, shape and surface finish of a part. This process is often used after turning or milling and is designed to achieve an exceptionally high degree of surface finish and dimensional accuracy.

How does CNC honing work?

During honing, a set of abrasive stones moves across the surface of the part being machined. These stones are attached to a honing head, which rotates while making a back-and-forth motion. CNC technology ensures that this process is performed with extreme precision, precisely controlling the dimensions and surface finish.

Applications of CNC honing

CNC honing is used in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, and medical devices. It is ideal for finishing cylinder bores, hydraulic cylinders, and other components where high precision and surface quality are required.

Benefits of CNC honing

1. High accuracy: CNC honing offers unparalleled accuracy in dimensions and surface finish.

2. Efficiency: Automation of the process allows parts to be finished quickly and efficiently.

3. Flexibility: It can be adapted to a wide range of materials and part sizes.

4. Improved life of parts: Superior workmanship extends the life of machine parts.

5. Consistency: CNC honing provides a consistent finish on multiple workpieces.

Difference between honing and pull grinding

Although both honing and draw grinding are used for precision finishing, they differ in their specific applications, the type of finish they produce, and how the grinding process is performed. Honing is more focused on internal surfaces and cylinders, while draw grinding is ideal for external surfaces and achieving an extremely smooth finish.
